*UPDATE 30 May 2020
On Thursday 28 May President Geingob announced the regulations of Phase 3 of the COVID 19 response. Although sporting activities will be allowed from 2 June onward, only a maximum of 50 people at public gatherings will be allowed. The RMB Brandberg Rhino Run and Ride will thus not be able to take place at the initial proposed date of 5 and 6 June, but will be postponed by two months to 7 and 8 August. By postponing it this long we hope to reach a stage where there will be no limit to the number of people gathered.
By this time we are sure you are, like us, itching to line up for an exciting event alongside like-minded people (whom we have not seen for much too long) for a day of sweat and fun under the Namibian sun. Be assured, we as a team were really excited and all systems go to make this event a reality on 5 and 6 June. So yes, we are all a bit heart sore. But we have to acknowledge that these are unsure times under the current State of Emergency in Namibia, and we were always going to have to align ourselves with the regulations of the Government regarding the management of the COVID 19 pandemic. Also, we trust that the Government have our health and well-being in mind with the current regulations, so we will continue to appreciate this gesture.
But on a positive side, by postponing the event there will be loads of time for those injuries and niggles to heal. Those who downgraded their events will also have enough time to train for the original longer events. We will have time to canvas more of the awesome items which you can bid on during the pre-race auction. And who knows, the participants from our neighbouring countries who were eager to come, may even be able to join us by then.
Ultimately, as much as we love running and riding and visiting with our trail- and MTB friends, this is a non-profit event, a fund-raiser for Save the Rhino Trust Namibia. We are forever grateful for all the support from each and every one of you, our athletes, and our generous sponsors. We trust that we will still see you all at the event on the 7th and 8th of August, as well as the hundreds more athletes that will enter between now and then.
We do respect that your work- and life schedule may make it difficult for you to attend the event at the new date. It will be unfortunate but understandable if you would like to withdraw your entry. If this is the case, please let us know by email and we can discuss your options. Otherwise, for the rest who have sent us your proof of payment, your entry is secure and we absolutely can’t wait to see you!
Please all remember to adjust your accommodation booking at Brandberg White Lady Lodge. Contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org
Until then, keep safe, keep running, keep riding, wave your flags high and keep the fires burning.
With much love
The Touch and Go Team
